Space engineers drilling rig.

Second, gravity means that any flying harvester either needs bottom-mounted drilling (cumbersome, unwieldy, unstable) or powerful main thrusters on two axes - lift and retro. This is compounded by the hard-limit that gravity places on your extraction capacity - in space, a couple flying cargocans with drills on them can pull in multiple ...

May 21, 2021 · Optimal Drill Placement for Tunneling w/Rovers. Trying my hand at rover design, and the current challenge is to build a compact rover that can easily drill directional tunnels between ore deposits (I have a cluster of five within 500m of each other). Eventually I will add articulation to handle turning, descending, and ascending, but for right ...

Aug 7, 2020 · I'm in the process of constructing my first large grid drilling rig. I am attempting to build a retractable drilling arm. As it stands, the unit is shaped like an upside down U when standing upright (hooked to my grid via advanced rotor. For the drill head itself, I have an adv. rotor with a small head. Whenever I put a drill on it and turn on said drill, the rotor is ripping itself apart. I'm ...

Very familiar with the concept in firearms. Didn't get the joke though. GruntBlender Space Engineer • 10 mo. ago. Arguably this thing was more bolt action than semi auto. I generally just use a large ship flying cargo container with drills attached to the bottom, I get thousands of of tonnes of ice pretty easily. I use this method also. Build a ship with four drills on the bottom instead of landing gear. The just fly over a lake, turn on the drills and land.

If you want it for the effect, a program block can incrementally change the max extension for the piston. Either trigger that with a timer block, or use the built in tick support. It's maybe 50 blocks long and nearly 1 million tonnes, 5 sets of staggered pistons let it drill down 40 ish meters. It also has a side door that rotates out 90" then lowers via a piston and rotor setup. I saved out when it was drilling. Now every time I log in the damned thing takes about 10 seconds, starts to tremble and all the rotors explode ...

There are a whole bunch of ways to do drilling rigs, (large or small grid) and some wouldn't even need hinges or rotors. The simplest (for mining rock, ice, or possibly boulders) is to have a rover with a piston or two facing downward with one or more drills on the end. You group the pistons and add the group to your hotbar with reverse.

1: it's slow. 2: stone projectiles can damage your ship. 3: right-click drilling will increase the radius and not collect stone (or anything) - meaning with a bit of care, you can drill through a layer of stone or a hole in a planet surface and expose pure resources without picking up 500k of ♥♥♥ stone. :3. From what I've read people reduce the wobble by making very heavy drill ships. #2. NerdyHexel Jan 15, 2014 @ 9:37pm. I used a lot of stabalizers. This can definitely be shortened. This initially had a small drill head on it. So all the current timing was based off how fast those drills could safely drill down, and even then there was a good 5-8 seconds of safety built into it.For static miners I usually have a 9-13 drill diameter, in a + formation with 0.5RPM on the advanced rotor. I set all pistons to 0 maximum distance and add a timer block for each piston, set them to increase maximum distance for one piston and activate the next timer block. And loop it. 30 seconds delay is usually fine. The Emerson Drilling rig is a slow but steady platform for deep core drilling. The right click for destroying rock is nice, but the normal mining operation should also destroy the same size hole. Currently it's far too tight, even with extra drills behind to enlarge ...To solve this, we put in 4 stabilizing pistons that extend to almost touch the 4 sides of the drill shaft. These pistons are actuated when moving the rig and at the start of the drilling operation to prevent the drill from hitting the rover itself. The drill works great! Only complaint is too much stone. Goes a depth of around 100m.
